A crown is designed to act as a kind of ‘cap’ (or crown) to a tooth that has been damaged in some way. They are often used in cases where a simple filling won’t suffice, or to complement and support another treatment such as a bridge or root canal treatment.
Crowns can be made of a variety of materials, but most commonly they are made of a precious metal such as gold, porcelain, or Zirconia.
Crowns are normally applied over two separate appointments. At the first appointment, we will remove any damaged or weakened parts of the tooth and take an impression or digital scan of the tooth.
This will then be delivered to the laboratory where your crown will be made. Each crown is unique to the patient and takes great skill to create. Once the crown is ready to be applied, you will return to us here at the practice where we’ll affix the crown after first administering local anaesthetic. This is so you don’t feel any discomfort or pain during the treatment.
If you are interested in or in need of any dental restoration treatment, then please feel free to contact us here at the practice to discuss your options.
